South Florida: Armadillo Cafe in Boca Raton, Florida
“Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or not at all.” – Harriet Van Horne
One of my last nights in Florida, I dined at Armadillo Cafe in Boca Raton with Hillary. She is a frequent guest of the restaurant, and for very good reason. The place has a unique menu and tasty dishes.
We grabbed a spot at the bar, and Hillary asked the chef, Kevin McCarthy, what he recommended. He suggested the smoked duck quesadilla with Jack cheese, sour cream, and cranberry pear chutney. I love duck, but I am not a fan of cranberries. However, the chutney complimented the duck so wonderfully that I ended up eating all the cranberries! This was a great introduction to the wonderful flavors of Armadillo.
Next, Hillary ordered one of her favorite dishes, the pistachio crusted mozzarella with ripe pears, garden greens and lemon-basil vinaigrette. The salad was so fresh, and the cheese was delicious.
Everything was so fabulous, we had to order dessert. Since I am a chocolate lover, I ordered the chocolate fritters. They were amazing and melted in my mouth. Just when I thought the food could not get any better, the dessert blew me away!
I left the restaurant very happy. The service was great, and the food was fantastic. If you are looking for a locals’ place, check out Armadillo Cafe. You will be very pleased with your meal.

My whole family tried Armadillo last weekend. Each and every dish was something special. Can’t wait to try those chocolate fritters.
