The Dog and Pony Tavern, Bar Harbor, Maine
“I’m into very colorful food. Obviously lots of flavor, but I think we eat with our eyes first, so it has to look great. The presentation has to be great.” – Giada De Laurentiis
I love seafood, especially lobster. When Brenda suggested getting a lobster roll while in Bar Harbor, my mouth salivated. My mission was to find a restaurant where I could feast on lobster even though the town had settled down for the winter.
Where to begin? Although many of my friends have visited Bar Harbor, no one could remember where they ate. I drove around town hoping something would catch my eye. When I spied two little, old ladies, I asked them to recommend a place where I could find the best lobster roll in Bar Harbor. They suggested the Dog and Pony Tavern, by the fire station.
After exploring a bit, I hopped in my car to find my lobster roll. Google maps led me to the fire station. However, with the rain coming down hard, visibility was difficultlt. I circled the area several times, but I could not find this little gem. The clock was ticking, and I wanted to hit Acadia National Park before my long drive home.
I finally decided I would head over to another seafood place I saw. As I walked over, the Dog and Pony Tavern appeared right before my eyes. In I went, satisfied with my stroke of luck.
I scanned the menu, and found exactly what I was looking for. I added a cup of lobster bisque to my meal.
The bisque burst with flavor in my mouth, and the lobster chunks were large and meaty. It was the best damn bisque I have ever tasted. Out came my lobster roll, and the tails were big and beautiful. I could not wait to take a bite. The lobster was to die for, and I was happy I stumbled upon two locals willing to help an adventurer on her journey.
