The Dynamic Duo Dine at Neptune Oyster
“Roommate Rules: Be a good friend. Laugh every day. Respect each other. Share stuff. Listen to music. Be a good listener. Be spontaneous. Be yourself.”
One of the perks of moving back to the Boston area is reconnecting with old friends. Although my college roommate, Shireen, is from the Midwest, she lives in Massachusetts. To celebrate her birthday, we decided to meet up in Boston. She is a mom of two, and I have been away for many years… Where to go?
Lucky for us, I have friends who know the best places to experience the tastiest dishes in Boston. They know which places are “tourist traps” and which restaurants serve great food. I asked for the most outstanding seafood places in Boston, which is how we ended up at Neptune Oyster.
The restaurant is located in the North End and boasts a cool, lively vibe. As I spied a number of folks patiently waiting for one of their limited tables, I hoped we would be seated. We did not have a plan B, and the alluring aroma promised a delightful culinary experience.
We ordered wine, oysters, and meals off of their delicious menu. I opted for the squid ink risotto, a dish I had never tried before. The wine flowed, and our meals melted in our mouths. The conversation dated back to our college days to our present situations.
She told me how her students asked her to describe me, and she told them we are very different. She was the one who came home from studio in the middle of the night, while I was the one who came home from a party. I saw her as the sweetest person I knew, who was dedicated to her studies and passionate about her art. She saw me as fearless. I once threw everything into a car and drove cross country – without a job, with minimal friends out west – just because I wanted to live in Cali. She reminded me of the bold, young girl I used to be – the girl who chased her dreams without a care in the world.
Despite our different personalities, our friendship has endured over time. We have always shared the same values and continue to do so. We are both good people, and we have built a rock solid friendship based on trust. This cute, little venue with fabulous food let us step back in time to relive the carefree days of our youth.
