Cliff Walk, Newport, Rhode Island
“I take to the open road, healthy and free, the world before me.” – Walt Whitman
New England has many beautiful spots to explore. One of the hidden gems near Boston is Newport, Rhode Island. You can take a quick day trip, or spend a few days in the area. There are cute, little shops, the beach, fresh seafood, boats, mansions, and my favorite, the Cliff Walk. This is a destination I like to hit when I have visitors in town.
When I had friends from California here, they wanted to go to the Cape. Unfortunately, November is not the best time to go. As they wanted to see the ocean and nature, I suggested spending a day in Newport.
We went to the Cliff Walk, which is a beautiful path along the ocean. The views are spectacular, and the walk is peaceful. There are many great, little spots to play around with the camera and capture a unique shot.
After wandering down the path for awhile, we stumbled on The Breakers Mansion, the most extravagant “cottage” in Newport and a symbol of the Vanderbilts’ wealth. The mansion is beyond enormous with amazing views of the ocean and ornate decorations throughout. If you only have time for one mansion, this is the one you want to explore.
After the mansion, we took the same path back to our car, ate some seafood in town, then headed back to my apartment. The day was a hit for my guests.
A few years later, when my sister from Greece, Dina, and niece, Joanna, came to visit, I knew this would be a great place to take them… especially since they love nature and beauty. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate for us, so we did not spend much time on the Cliff Walk. We went to The Breakers and feasted on seafood afterwards. When they visit again, I hope to bring them back to the Cliff Walk and give them the full-on experience of strolling along the cliffs with the ocean and mansions as a backdrop. This is definitely an excursion I would recommend for travelers visiting the Boston area…
Amazing pictures!
Thank you!
