Good Eats in Koreatown, New York City
“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.”
When I traveled to Vietnam, one of my flights was on a Korean airline, which served Korean food. I had never really eaten Korean food before, and airplane food is usually lacking. However, the spices they served us burst with flavor, and they sparked my interest in Korean cuisine. When I got back to the States, I wanted to explore the flavors of Korea.
While on business, I found myself in Koreatown, New York City. My skin tickled with excitement as I saw myself surrounded by a plethora of Korean restaurants. Since my trip to Vietnam, I had only had Korean once for lunch, with one of my clients, Kevin. I had no idea where to venture off to.
Kevin is a foodie. He knows his restaurants and what to order. I texted him, gave him my location, and asked him if he had any recommendations for me. He was quick to respond, and he sent me to Miss Korea BBQ.
Their menu had so many great choices. I ordered a squid and pork belly dish, which came with several “appetizers.” As Kevin had taught me, Korean meals are accompanied with several little dishes beforehand.
The apps were tasty, and my meal was a culinary delight. I was happy I had reached out to Kevin, who provided me with another great spot. I would definitely dine at Miss Korea BBQ in the future.
Next up? Dessert. Although my belly was full, I decided to check out the shaved snow at Grace Street, another one of Kevin’s recommendations. He said the place was right across the street, and it served unique desserts. I was not sure when I would be back to the area, so I decided to go for it.
Grace Street had many interesting teas and desserts to choose from. They also offered vegan and gluten free options. Since I had never tried shaved snow before, I opted for the Cookie Monster with a hot tea.
My dessert could feed five or more people. Actually, all of the desserts I saw floating around were meant for sharing. The shaved snow was similar to ice cream with a unique texture, and it satisfied my sweet tooth. What a happy ending to a delicious evening.
