Roaring Twenties Lawn Party, Ipswich
“By the mid 1920s, the typical American town was in full sexual bloom. The change came with erotic fashions, literature and movies, and an unexpected sexual aid, the automobile.” – John Leo
When C asked Alison and I if we were interested in the Roaring Twenties Lawn Party at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, I smiled and said, “Sure.” I had experienced fun events at the magnificent Crane Estate before, and I was game for checking out some 1920s costumes.
The Crane Estate, the former summer mansion of Richard Crane, is in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The property is located along the ocean with gorgeous, rolling hills — a perfect venue for entertaining.
The 1920s party had a plethora of activities to entertain us. We kicked off our day with a friendly game of croquet, which proved to be a lot of fun. We also played badminton, but quickly abandoned the game when we kept killing the birdies. We shared some great laughs at our utter silliness.
As we strolled the venue, our ears danced with 1920s music performed by a live band. Everyone participated in the dressing the part, and the costumes were fabulous.
There was a station with alcohol for those who wanted to add a kick to their step, as they were led in 1920s dances. There were also spots to sit and chat with your companions, as you people-watched. With all the great costumes, there were plenty to catch the eye.
The 1920s party was a super cool, fun event. I would definitely plan on going back in the future to take a step back in time and enjoy an era from long ago…
Last year was so much fun, that we went back this year with more friends. We danced more and enjoyed the spectacular attire everyone wore. This is definitely going to be a tradition for us…
