Plum Island Kitchen: Best Pizza Ever
“Cooking is like love. It should be entered into with abandon or nothing at all.” – Julia Child
Just like pizza, there is a certain comfort in childhood friends. When my high school friend, Bill, started posting pictures of mouth-watering pizzas on his Facebook page, the girls and I got curious.
In high school, we knew Bill as Billy or BA. He was a star athlete, who had a kind heart. Through the years, our paths have separated and crossed. He is still the gentle giant I grew up with.
One night, Tania, her husband, Rich, Ang, a few of their kids, and I went to Plum Island to check out Billy’s new pizza place, Plum Island Kitchen. We wanted to support our old friend, as well as try his pizza. The pictures he had been posting had been quite a tease. I was sick of drooling; I wanted to taste.
As parking was provided, we took two cars. We ordered two large pizzas, one half pepperoni and half cheese, the other half sausage and half pepper, as well as steak tips and drinks.
The steak tips came out first, as our appetizer. They were juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection. They also came with their special pickles and onions. If you enjoy steak tips, I would highly recommend trying the ones at Plum Island Kitchen.
Next up came the pizzas. OMG. These were seriously the best pizzas I have ever had. I am not saying this because Billy is a long-time friend. I could have scarfed down a whole pie; it really was that yummy.
Billy came out to see how he we were doing. He wanted to know what our honest opinions were. We complimented him profusely. Of course, he did not believe us.
I pointed out Ang’s dish. Ang has always eaten pizza with us, but I have never seen her eat pizza without picking it apart. Since she was a kid and into adulthood, Ang has always scraped off the cheese and sauce, leaving just a little bit of the toppings on the pizza. This is the first time I think she has thoroughly enjoyed pizza. If that is not a testament to how tasty Bill’s pizza was, then I do not know what is.
We chatted a bit, reminisced about the old times, and caught up on life. We asked, “Why a pizza place, Bill?” His response, “I love to eat.”
After eating an amazing dinner, we walked about a block down to the beach. It was so peaceful and pretty there, but the temperature had dropped. We needed to get going.
The sun was lighting up the sky and tempted us to drive to the end point, where we could see the colors in their full glory. Plum Island is such a peaceful, beautiful spot in Massachusetts.
I was really happy I got to see Billy in his element. He was a complete perfectionist with his pizzas, and I could tell he is living his passion. His cooking came from his heart. I was proud of him, and I wish him lots of success on his new endeavor.
If you have not had a pizza from Plum Island Kitchen, I highly recommend the place. The pizzas are delicious, the folks are sweet, and the sunset creates a perfect atmosphere on this beautiful, little island.
