MA: Provincetown, Cape Cod
“The waves of the sea help me get back to me.”
When my friend, Gisela, came to visit me, she wanted to go biking in the Cape. She really wanted to spend time in Nantucket, which she read about years ago. However, her trip to Boston was last-minute, and the Cape was booked up.
Travel tip: Book the Cape early. Hotels fill up fast!
I was tasked with finding a day trip where we could go biking. Prior to leaving Florida, I had stayed with Gisela for a few weeks, and we would bike every day. Biking became our thing. I was on a mission to find the best, most logical place for us to visit where we could bike.
Having lived away from Boston for years, I was at a loss on where to go. I started asking around, and one of my clients, Ron, told me the best place to bike in the Cape that did not involve a boat ride was Provincetown. The other areas were very hilly and for advanced bikers. I ran the idea by Gisela, and she was game. We decided to do a day trip to P-Town.
We got up early, and off we went. When we reached our destination, we immediately reserved some bicycles. We got a bite to eat, then explored the area via bike. We went Memorial Day weekend, so the streets were packed. The crowd was eclectic and fun, and the people-watching was fantastic. P-Town is known for its LGBT community.
We wandered down to the water, and started crossing the path made of rocks (pictured above). You can actually walk the whole way to the the other side. We had some seafood and other treats. We also explored the town by foot and checked out the Pilgrim Monument (pictured below).
Our adventure ended up being really fun and a perfect road trip from my apartment in Wakefield. We wished we could have stayed longer, but P-Town is the last point on the Cape. We knew we would have a long drive back.
One day, when Gisela visits again, we will plan a few days in Nantucket. Provincetown ended up being a great, little piece of the Cape to explore with such limited time. Thanks for the memories, Gisela!
Are you looking for a fun escape in the Cape where you can go biking? If so, check out P-Town. The town is less hilly than other parts of the Cape, and you do not have to take a boat to reach your destination.
