Now in its 22nd year, the African-American Achievers awards was established by Jim Moran, founder of JM Family, Southeast Toyota and JM Lexus. Since the first award presentation in 1992, 129 remarkable individuals have been named African-American Achievers, and more than $327,000 has been donated to charitable organizations on their behalf in recognition of their contributions. At the annual celebration, African-American leaders — including one high school senior — are honored for enriching the quality of life in South Florida. The adult Achievers are selected in the categories of Arts & Culture, Business & Entrepreneurism, Community Service and Education.
