What is HubWeek?

HubWeek, a fall festival in Boston, Massachusetts, was created by The Boston Globe, Harvard University, MIT, and Massachusetts General Hospital in 2014. HubWeek features innovative thought leaders in art, science, and technology, who are building a better tomorrow.

In 2017, I attended HubWeek’s Silent Disco. I had a lot of fun, and I wanted to experience more of what HubWeek has to offer. In 2018, I went back to HubWeek, one evening, with Elaine, who was visiting from Florida. We attended a few lectures, where intellects led stimulating discussions with small, diverse groups.

Stimulate your mind; find solutions.

One of the sessions we attended was Brain Date: The Future of Health, Wellness and Medicine. This was a really interesting conversation regarding the negative impact narcotics are having on Massachusetts residents. A childhood neighbor had recently overdosed and passed. His senseless death left me sad, confused, and angry. For this reason, this topic was of great interest to me.

The speaker facilitated the conversation and talked about an emergency kit which could help minimize deaths due to overdoses. Instead of overdosing, people could use the emergency kit to save themselves. This may not be the solution to the drug epidemic, but the kit gives hope to lessening senseless deaths. We were given a lot to think about.

Psychedelic visuals.

We continued to explore and entered a small dome, where we were seated on the ground. The room went dark, and stimulating visuals danced all around us. Afterwards, we walked around and checked out the cool exhibits. My appetite for attending the entire HubWeek event was wet with anticipation and longing.
